Jet2 customers can now take two sets of hand luggage on board flights for free

This is a change from the previous one hand luggage per person rule.

From Thursday, December 3, in addition to a piece of hand luggage weighing no more than 10kg and no larger than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (including wheels and handles), customers can carry a small personal item that can be placed underneath the seat in front of them.

It means customers may not have to pay for a large cabin bag as they will have more room in their hand luggage.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Leeds-based Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “Customer feedback tells us loud and clear that they really value our friendly hand luggage policy, which enables them to pack more into their cabin baggage without having to pay extra.

"In line with that I am pleased to report that Jet2.com will not charge customers for their cabin baggage allowance and furthermore they can continue to enjoy our award-winning flights with two free pieces of hand luggage as standard.

"We know how important this is to them, and this announcement demonstrates how we continue to do everything we can to make sure that customers enjoy their holidays whilst giving them the best value possible.”

The news comes as the company announced direct flights and package holidays to Iceland from Leeds Bradford Airport.

Jet2 will be offering "once in a lifetime" trips directly from the airport for the Winter 21/22 season.

Customers can pick from flight-only or package holiday options, with package options with Jet2CityBreaks available for a £60 per person deposit.

Package options with Jet2CityBreaks include a guided Northern Lights Tour and a choice of 3 or 4-star hotels in central Reykjavik.

In addition, excursions to the Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon and South Shore are also available to purchase.

Jet2 recently won two awards for how it has handled the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent holiday cancellations.

On Monday, November 2, the Leeds-based company was named a World Travel Leader for its positive response to the pandemic at the annual World Travel Leaders Awards as part of London Travel Week 2020.

According to the judges, this was driven by Jet2holidays’ “positive approach to refunds and cancellations.”

The airline and package holiday company was then presented another award by the Scottish Passenger Agents’ Association (SPAA) on Thursday, November 6.

It was rewarded with ‘Best Large Tour Operator’ at a virtual event.

The award recognised "individuals and companies who have responded well to the pandemic."
