They have taken up residency at Distrikt, an underground electronic music bar on Duncan Street, where they will be dishing up smash burgers and loaded fries.

Plans to expand follow four years of success serving falafel at their Briggate location, rated third out of more than 1,100 restaurants in Leeds on Tripadvisor.

In a social media post, the brothers said: “It’s time for something new and exciting. After four years of perfecting the falafel, it’s about time to perfect the perfect smash burger.”

Everything on the menu is halal. Options include smash beef burgers served with fries or loaded fries.

Vegetarian and vegan options will also be available and Big Buns will carry on offering falafel burgers.

Co-founder Abdalla Ramzy said the brothers were thrilled to be starting a new venture, especially during the difficult times of the pandemic.

He said: “We are ready for something new.

“The pandemic has slowed us down with our new concept but never stopped us from making it happen.

“Our secret sauce to the success is to never give up and adapt to all changes quickly and serve the best quality food and this is what we are going to carry on doing through Big Buns.

“Yes, we’ve opened just outside Five Guys, but we’re learned in the past four years that Leeds are big on independent and quality products, and we are committed to using the best ingredients.”

Mr Ramzy added there is never a perfect time to launch a new business and said they were craving the challenge.

Big Buns will launch on UberEats and Deliveroo on Monday February 1.

They will open for eat-in when Covid restrictions allow.
