Face masks must be worn in Leeds Kirkgate Market

Shoppers at Leeds Kirkgate Market have been reminded that wearing face masks is now mandatory.

People are required by law to wear a mask when in shops and supermarkets from Friday, July 24.

Under the new rules, people will need to have their nose and mouth covered or face a fine of up to £100.

People with certain disabilities will be exempt.

Leeds Council run Kikrgate Market said that face coverings "must now be worn" when in the market.

A spokesman said on the Leeds Markets Twitter account: "Good morning.

"In line with new rules you must now wear a face covering while shopping in the indoor market. Here’s a reminder of shopping safely with us.

"Thank you for your continued support."
