'Do not go to the airport': Jet2 cancels flights to Balearic and Canary Islands as well as mainland Spain

The government has since updated their advice to include the Balearic and Canary Islands.

A spokesman for Jet2 issued a statement at 10.45pm on Monday.

The statement reads: "Following the latest government advice regarding travel to the Balearic and Canary Islands from the UK, we are advising customers who are due to travel to Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza not to go to the airport tomorrow (Tuesday, July 28th) as we are not operating flights to these destinations.

"This advice also applies to customers travelling to any of our destinations in Mainland Spain.

"We will be operating our scheduled programme of flights to the UK from these destinations tomorrow.

"This is an extremely fast-moving situation and we will provide a further update in due course."

Earlier in the day, Jet2 announced that it has suspended all flights and holiday programmes to Costa de Almeria, Alicante, Malaga and Murcia.

This will affect flights from Tuesday, July 28 up to and including August 16.

Customers who have booked flights or holiday packages during this period will be contacted by the airline to rebook, or offered a refund credit note or full cash refund.
