What’s on at Leeds Heritage Theatres in 2021 and 2022
The smash hit Everybody’s Talking About Jamie comes to Leeds Grand Theatre from November 2-6, featuring stars from the critically acclaimed West End production, Layton Williams, Shane Richie and Shobna Gulati.
With their signature blend of world-class dance and storytelling, Northern Ballet takes audiences on an epic adventure with their new ballet Merlin from November 9-20, followed by Kenneth Tindall’s sensational Casanova from March 10-19, 2022.
The Classic Thriller Theatre Company presents their fifth production, The Cat and the Canary, from November 19-23, brought to life by an all-star cast including international superstar Britt Ekland and pop sensation Anthony Costa.
As the nights draw in, relive that summer loving as Grease The Musical returns with special guest Peter Andre from November 30 – December 4.
This Christmas, enter a world of magic and fantasy as Disney’s classic movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks makes its world premiere as an exciting new stage musical flying into Leeds Grand Theatre from December 8, 2021 – January 2, 2022.
As an additional festive treat, our Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto will also return this year with Beauty and the Beast rocking The City Varieties Music Hall stage from November 26, 2021 – January 9, 2022. The Varieties - Leeds’ oldest theatre, and the Guinness world record holder for the UK’s longest running music hall - hosts the very best in today’s comedy, music, and variety all year round.
The year ahead
In 2022, there are even more showstopping productions to choose from.
Kicking off the year, resident company Opera North presents a trio of operas: Rigoletto, Alcina and Carmen.
Also returning to The Grand in February and March, bigger and better than ever, is the star-studded Fat Friends – The Musical and the multi-award winning musical SIX.
Amongst these returning favourites, the brand-new UK premier production of Cluedo arrives in Leeds in March, promising audiences of all ages nostalgia, fun and thrills.
April brings treat after treat with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical School of Rock, based on the iconic movie, the return of the National Theatre’s acclaimed production of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, and outrageous musical comedy The Book of Mormon.
Heating things up in May is Chicago, “the sexiest musical ever” (Metro), returning to delight audiences with its sassy sexy score before summer brings not one, but two West End transfers with the dazzling musical Dreamgirls and the brand-new production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Continuing a summer of sensational shows, go behind the music and inside the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons in the Olivier Award-winning Jersey Boys; experience the multi award-winning master of mind control and psychological illusion, Derren Brown, in Showman; and unlock the secrets of The Da Vinci Code in the world premiere stage adaptation of the international phenomenon.
As November creeps in, warm your hearts with a feel-good voyage about friendship, community and music with Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical, then storm the barricades for a ticket to Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed production of Les Misérables.
