Review: Dick Whittington and His Meerkat

If you are thinking of going to a panto this year, you can’t go wrong with Dick Whittington and His Meerkat.

Don’t go to the York Theatre Royal, because the panto has moved to the Signal Box Theatre at the National Railway Museum.

The cast are all round stars, they act and sing and dance as well. The new theatre means the audience are very close to the stage and that makes it even more exciting and entertaining.

I liked all the characters and cast. Berwick Kaler is the world’s greatest dame and AJ Powell plays the world’s most talented meerkat.

Martin Barrass and Suzy Cooper are both amazing David Leonard is a brilliant baddie. I also liked Vincent Gray, who played Dick Whittington, but everybody was really good and they all deserve an honourable mention. The stage crew also do a fantastic job pushing the stage along a train track in the middle of the theatre.

I liked everything about the show and one of my favourite moments was the boxing match close to the end.

Another was when Berwick Kaler threw Wagon Wheels into the audience and I caught one for the first time. I have been trying to do that since I was five.

For a funny show, with great songs and dances, look no further. The Theatre Royal pantomime at the Signal Box Theatre is the best I have ever seen.
