The app matches people based on their DNA, with the trailer demonstrating this by taking a strand of hair and running it through the company’s online database.

But how far are people willing to go to find their soulmate?

The Netflix description reads: “Love - and lies - spiral when a DNA researcher helps discover a way to find the perfect partner, and creates a bold new matchmaking service.”

Is The One based on a book?

The One is based on a novel of the same name written by author John Marrs and published in 2017. The book states - ‘Have you met your match?’ - and has a 4.5/5 rating on Amazon.

The book has been adapted for TV by Misfits, Vexed and Future Man writer Howard Overman.

Who is in The One cast?

The One stars Hannah Ware (Hitman: Agent 47, Cop Out, Oldboy) as Rebecca, the brains behind the dating app called MatchDNA.

The cast also features Zoe Tapper (Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky, Survivors, Mr Selfridge) and Dimitri Leonidas (Centurion, The Monuments Men, Riviera).

The One also features Amir El-Masry, Lois Chimimba, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Pallavi Sharda

What are the reviews saying about The One?

The Guardian said: “It’s a stylish show that will slip down easily enough on nights – and there are plenty of them – when you don’t have the mental bandwidth for anything more demanding. Beyond that, I doubt The One is anyone’s perfect match.”

NME said: “Obviously, comparisons to Black Mirror abound. But these comparisons only make you appreciate how good Black Mirror actually was. The conceit cannot be faulted; the implications of a dating app like The One would be radical.

“But The One, intent on being a crime drama whose premise has almost nothing to do with the dating service, squanders this opportunity in a misguided attempt to fill the screen with dead bodies.”

Den Of Geek wrote: “The One’s a functional thriller that pulls off a few surprises and does gather binge-watch momentum, but ultimately, it shoots itself in the foot by giving away too much, too soon. “By the time the finale comes, there’s very little left to reveal.”

When is The One out on Netflix?

The One is available to watch on the streaming service Netflix now.

All eight episodes of the series are accessible to Netflix monthly subscribers and can be downloaded to be watched offline.
