'The bird lady of Yorkshire' calls The Yorkshire Vet's Peter Wright to help sick tawny owl on Channel 5 show

Thirsk's Rose Dawson - known as "the bird lady of Yorkshire" - calls in vet Peter Wright, who trained under Sinclair and Wight, as she has rescued a sick tawny owl.

She said: “You get very attached to them, all they want is security, food and care.”

Mr Wright goes to visit the owl, which appears to have a broken wing, and says: “It appears to have flown into a cable and injured its wing and a bird in the wild would die with this kind of injury.”

He takes the bird into Skeldale Veterinary Centre to perform surgery.

Ms Dawson has more than 50 bird resident in her garden.

During the episode tomorrow, Julian Norton also has an interesting house call to Yorkshire stately home Harewood House, where he treats eight goats.

He is there to give them their twice-yearly inoculations and check their teeth and feet - but is given the run around.

Sinclair and Wight were immortalised in the latter’s All Creatures Great and Small stories under the pen name James Herriot.

The Yorkshire Vet, which is made by Leeds-based Daisybeck Studios, is on tomorrow at 8pm on Channel 5.
