Thankfully, plans for the resumption of filming are afoot, and it won’t be long before audiences will be reunited with the feast of biting satire, heavily punctuated with cursing and backstabbing.

Here's everything you need to know about a third season of the hit show.

What is Succession about?

The dark comedy-drama is focuses on a family of media moguls spearheaded by perpetually growling patriarch, Logan Roy (Brian Cox). Heavily inspired by the Murdoch family, the series charts three of the Roy kids – Kendall, Siobhan and Roman – jockeying for the position of company CEO as their father’s health declines.

In season two the businesses dodgy practices come back to haunt them with scandal looming over the family business throughout.

No official launch date had been confirmed for season three, but work is underway in spite of the coronavirus pandemic.

Stars of the drama Matthew Macfadyen and Brian Cox have both hinted that filming for the show will get underway in autumn at the earliest.

Macfadyen said: “They’re hoping to start in the autumn, I suppose, but I know that a lot of shows are sort of sliding to January. I think it changes week to week — or day to day, really.”

Filming for the series was meant to get underway in April.

Writer Jesse Armstrong hinted that filming may get underway in the near future. Speaking to Radio Times, he said: “We’ve carried on writing during the lockdown. But it’s still up in the air. As for coronavirus, there are things to think about, in terms of how we deal or don’t deal with it. But I’m not going to get into it in public.”

If filming were to get underway at the tail end of 2020 it would be reasonable to expect a late 2021 release, but for now no release date is in place.

Who will feature in season three?

No confirmed cast has been revealed for season three, but fans should fully expect the return of all Roy family members.

Brian Cox leads the cast as the omnipotent patriarch Logan Roy. Jeremy Strong of The Big Short fame plays meek and damaged son Kendall, desperate to impress his forever disapproving father.

Sarah Snook plays Shiv, who emerged as a strong contender for the Waystar throne in season two, revealing her Machiavellian tendencies to audiences.

Kieran Culkin performs as the hilariously despicable Roman Roy, who time and time again proves to be woefully out of his depth to lead his father’s business empire.

Alan Ruck meanwhile plays the socially oblivious Connor Roy, mounting a doomed attempt to land a US presidency.

Matthew MacFadyen and Nicholas Braun should retain their roles as delightful odd couple Tom and Greg.
