Hugh Laurie has returned to our screens in new BBC One political drama Roadkill.

The show was written by playwright David Hare, and has attracted a number of acting stars to line up with Laurie.

Who is in the cast of Roadkill?

Hugh Laurie

Laurie plays the Conservative cabinet minister Peter Laurence.

The show centers around his ambition for political success whilst he grapples with accusations about his personal life.

Famous for his award-winning role as American doctor Gregory House is the medical drama House, which saw him play the cynical doctor for eight seasons, Laurie also starred in the TV drama The Night Manager in 2016.

He is also known for his early comedic work alongside Stephen Fry in Fry & Laurie, and his work with Rowan Atkinson in Blackadder.

Helen McCrory

McCory plays Conservative Prime Minister Dawn Ellison.

Speaking about the role and the dynamic between herself and Laurence, she said: “she doesn’t realise how dangerous he is. I think she realises that he is popular and that he is highly ambitious, as she is, and he is without scruples, as she is. But what she doesn’t realise is how many supporters he has.”

This isn't Helen McCory’s first stint in Downing Street, with the actress playing Cherie Blair in the 2006 movie The Queen alongside Michael Sheen.

Recently she appeared in the hit series Peaky Blinders, playing Polly Gray, and is known to Potter fans for her portrayal of Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise.

Sarah Greene

Greene plays financial journalist, Charmain Pepper, who was taken to court after writing a story about Peter Laurence.

Sarah Greene will be familiar to fans from the BBC series Normal People, in which she played the character of Lorraine.

Pip Torrens

Torrens plays newspaper editor Joe Lapidus. His paper was up against Peter Laurence in court, after a story published by his journalist Charmain Pepper.

The actor has been seen in numerous TV dramas over the years including The Crown, Preacher, Poldark and Patrick Melrose.

Pippa Bennett-Warner

Bennett-Warner plays Rochelle Madeley, the lawyer part of Peter Laurence’s legal team.

She has become a familiar face on the people’s TV screen over the last couple of years, having appeared in Gangs of London as Shannon Dunamni, and in Harlots as Harriet Lennox.

Patricia Hodge

Hodge plays Lady Roche in the new drama series.

Viewers will recognise the veteren actress from her role as Penny in Miranda, Ursula Thorpe in A Very English Scandal alongside Hugh Grant, and PM Margret Thatcher in The Falklands Play.

Ashok plays Luke Strand, who is part of Laurence’s legal team.

Danny Ashtok was recently in the TV series Strike, as Aamir Malik, and features in the political thriller Cobra as Manish Patel.

What is Roadkill about?

Roadkill follows Conservative cabinet minister Peter Laurence and the populist politician’s hunger for more power.

The show begins following his successful win in a newspaper libel case.

He is then summoned to Downing Street to see Prime Minister Dawn Ellison, who reveals that she is looking to promote him to an office of state.

However, Laurence’s personal life begins to get tangled with his search for political success, after his advisor Duncan Knock reveals an inmate in a women’s prison claims to have a secret about his past.

Where can I watch Roadkill?

Roadkill began on Sunday 18 October and is being broadcast each Sunday evening on BBC One at 9pm.

It will be available for catch up on BBC iPlayer.

There will be four episodes of the show.
