An iconic Halloween movie from 1996, The Craft has earned the reputation of a cult classic among fans.

And now the world of the spooky movie is back with The Craft: Legacy, which follows on 20 years after the action of the original film.

Created by horror specialist production company, Blumhouse Productions, this is everything you need to know about The Craft: Legacy.

What is The Craft: Legacy about?

The Craft: Legacy follows teenager Hannah as she and her mother move to a new area to be with her stepfather and brothers.

Hannah starts a new school where she befriends Tabby, Lourdes and Frankie, quickly becoming the fourth member of their clique.

What Hannah doesn’t know, however, is that her involvement with the trio will unleash great power amongst them all, and it seems that the teenage witches might get more than they bargained for as they learn about their newfound abilities.

In the trailer, we can see a picture of Nancy Downs, played by Fairuza Balk (American History X, Ray Donovan) from the original 1996 The Craft movie.

Does this mean a return for Nancy? Or is the picture foreshadowing the fate of one of the new crew of witches?

Douglas Wick, one of the film’s producers, said that the film is not a remake, explaining: “We wouldn’t so much call it a remake as a ‘20 years later’.

“There will be callbacks to the original movie, so you will see there is a connection between what happened in the days of The Craft, and how these young women come across this magic many years later.”

Who is in the cast?

Cailee Spaeny (Devs, Bad Times at the El Royale) stars as Hannah.

Also included in the coven is Tabby, played by Lovie Simone (Greenleaf, Orange is the New Black), Lourdes, played by Zoe Luna (Pose, Boundless), and Frankie, who is played by Gideon Adlon (Blockers, The Mustang).

Michelle Monaghan (Messiah, The Path) is Hannah’s mother, and David Duchovny (The X-Files, Aquarius) is her new stepfather.

It’s unclear whether any of the original stars from the 1996 version of The Craft will be making an appearance.

The original foursome was made up of Robin Tunney (Horse Girl, The Fix) as Sarah, Fairuza Balk (Almost Famous, American History X) as Nancy, Neve Campbell (Scream, House of Cards) as Bonnie and Rachel True (Better Things, The Manor) as Rochelle.

A picture of Nancy Downs included in the trailer for The Craft: Legacy could indicate that Fairuza Balk might be making a return.

The film is written and directed by Zoe Lister-Jones, who has written and directed television series Woman Up (2019) and film Band Aid (2017).

The film is also produced by Jason Blum’s production company Blumhouse Productions, which horror fans will know for films such as Get Out, Split, Paranormal Activity and The Invisible Man.

A trailer for The Craft: Legacy was released by Sony Pictures on 29 September.

It shows Hannah getting off to a bad start at her new school, with her period starting during class, prompting the teenage boys to declare: “Wow, that is super nasty!”

Hannah runs off to the bathroom - but while most of her classmates are laughing and making fun of her, a trio of girls appear much more concerned, exchanging pointed looks with one another.

The three girls then find Hannah crying in the bathroom, and offer her kind words of support, telling Hannah: “It happens to everyone.”

Hannah is then invited to one of their houses after school - which is when things start to get weird.

Set to a slowed down and eerie sounding version of Girls Just Want to Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper, one of the girls paints a pentagram on Hannah’s forehead.

She is then presented with a milky bath, filled with flowers and crystals. When she asks what all this is, she is told that it “is a ceremony”, to celebrate her.

Hannah asks why the three girls would want to celebrate her and they reply: “Because, you’re our fourth.”

We can then see a montage of Hannah and the other girls experiencing their powers - Hannah pushes a bully away with just a hand movement, they float a member of their crew above the ground and even stop time.

As the trailer goes on, everything quickly gets out of hand, with the girls using their powers for darker and darker purposes.

When will The Craft: Legacy be released?

It’s good news for fans of The Craft, as the film has dropped just in time for Halloween.

Cinemas across the UK and US video-on-demand services started screening the sequel from Wednesday 28 October.
