The eccentric neighbour of Wanda and Vision dressed as a witch for Halloween and has a cat named ‘Senor Scratchy’, while in the comics, Agatha’s son is also called Scratchy.

Weeks of uncertainty are over, with episode seven revealing that quirky Agnes (played by Kathryn Hahn) is in fact, (que dramatic music) Wanda’s mentor, Agatha Harkness.

Who is Agatha Harkness?

Fans of the Marvel comics which originally told the story of superhero couple Wanda and Vision will have a good idea of the powers and motivations of Harkness.

Agatha Harkness is a witch who is hundreds of years old and was introduced in the Fantastic Four comic books, where she assisted the Fantastic Four.

However, in WandaVision she is far less supportive and considerably more malevolent.

Agatha is a powerful witch from New Salem, Colorado and Wanda’s mentor who helps her discover and master her powers.

In the comics, Wanda creates her own children using fragments of Mephisto’s soul, but he then takes the children from her and Agatha uses her powers to rid the children of any memory of their mother.

The trajectory of Agatha in the series remains unknown for now, but it's becoming increasingly clear that she has ensured she is around for the birth of Wanda’s twins, as they are thought to have great power in the MCU.

Some speculation has been made that she has been in control of all the events in Westview up until this point in the series, while others believe she has only been observing the events to make sure Wanda’s children are protected as they grow into their powers.

While viewers will see Agnes protect Wanda in episode seven, it is likely Agatha will keep true to her character and is doing so to become trusted by Wanda and elevate herself in the long run.

Mephisto (Marvel’s version of the devil) has not appeared in the WandaVision series yet, but Wanda’s children have, so Mephisto could arise later.

What are Agatha’s superpowers?

If the series is to marry up with the comics, Agatha’s main power is in performing incantations to cast magic.

She can create illusions and teleport, while in the comics from the 1970s she has a cat named Ebony which can transform into a panther.

However, the cat hasn’t appeared in WandaVision and this could be because in the comics, she sacrificed it to gain precognitive powers, giving her the ability to see into the future.

This could be why Agnes has managed to appear on the scene at just the right time during the first seven episodes.

Where can I watch WandaVision?
