From famous features to lesser-known gems, Leeds is no stranger to film crews and cameras. Yorkshire's largest city has featured in a number of major productions and the screen industry has grown in recent years. Here are 13 films and TV shows filmed in our city, including some which might surprise you:
7. The Damned United, 2009
The Damned United is undoubtedly the cinematic pride of our city. As a film about Leeds United during Brian Clough's ill-fated tenure, it’s no surprise scenes were set and filmed in the city. Pictured at the film's Yorkshire premier is director Tom Hooper (right) with Ex Leeds United players from the left Peter Lorimer, Eddie Gray and Gordon McQueen.
8. Emmerdale, 1972-present
One of Leeds' greatest TV exports, the long-running soap set in the fictional Yorkshire village of Emmerdale is filmed between the ITV Studios in Kirkstall Road and a purpose-built set in Harewood. Some filming takes place in Leeds and Otley.
9. Sex, Drugs & Murder: Life in the Red Light Zone, 2007
The BBC Three documentary centres around sex workers working in the former managed zone in Holbeck, which has recently been discontinued. It was criticised by the English Collection of Prostitutes for only showing 'darker' areas of the industry such as drug addiction.
10. Take Us Home: Leeds United, 2019-2020
The Amazon Prime documentary followed the Whites over two seasons, covering their promotion to top-flight football. It features some famous Leeds figures including Josh Warrington and includes some stunning aerial shots of the city
11. The Hunter’s Prayer, 2017
This high-octane Hollywood thriller follows an assassin as he helps a young woman avenge the death of her family. Filming began in Yorkshire, shooting at Leeds locations including The Great Hall at Leeds University. Pictured is Sam Worthington, who stars as assassin Lucas Photo: Tim Whitby/Getty Images
