1,300 patients discharged from Leeds hospitals but we must forget those who were not so lucky - the YEP says

The Yorkshire Evening Post always comes under fire when we report on the scale of this once-in-a-generation crisis.

This newspaper has a duty to report accurately what is happening - and the number of deaths in Leeds does make for uncomfortable reading.

It is an unenviable task going through the daily releases from Government and NHS officials to report on what is happening in our city.

But it’s vital that we keep you, our readers, informed.

Today we can report that more than 1,300 Covid-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from Leeds hospitals since the start of the pandemic.

Julian Hartley, chief executive at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, has praised the “fantastic care” from the incredible healthworkers who have shown “great dedication” during “the greatest health emergency in the history of the NHS”.

But sadly we must also remember the human cost of this tragedy - their families and friends are grieving.
