"Living in a farm cottage on Black Road near Temple Newsam. No hot water, electricity or piped in gas, toilet outside and emptied on a Monday by the dustbin men. Mother and neighbour would sit on Black Road and when the lorries coming from I think was Waterloo coal mine, the lorry drivers would brake hard so coal would fall off the lorries. My mother and neighbour would fill up buckets and it kept us warm in winter" - Jo Domenech. Photo: Gary Longbottom
