But most people would only know about them if they have either lived or grew up in the city of Leeds. They range from historic cultural masterpieces to modern food and drink hubs tucked away off the beaten track.
How many of these do you recognise?
13. Cottage Road Cinema
This historic picture house is the oldest independent cinema in Leeds and thought to be among the oldest in the country, continuously showing films since 1912. The cinema is based, as its name suggests, on Cottage Road, just off the busy Otley Road route in Headingley. Pictured is manager Gary Benn with assistant Steven Moore in May, 2021. 14. The Dark Arches at Granary Wharf
Based on Dark Neville Street, the landmark construction was apparently first built to support the Leeds City Station structure. The Dark Arches at Granary Wharf are a network of brick arches and the River Aire runs underneath and through them, according to Visit Leeds. Photo: Mark Bickerdike
15. Leeds City Varieties
This theatre is steeped in history and can be found on Swan Street, between Lands Lane and Briggate in Leeds city centre. First opening in 1865, Leeds City Varieties is a cultural gem in Leeds. The theatre also holds the Guinness World Record for the country's longest-running music hall. Photo: Simon Hulme
16. Rodley Nature Reserve
A haven for nature-lovers, the reserve is based off Rodley Town Street, roughly four miles from the city centre in Leeds. Formerly a Yorkshire Water-run water treatment works, it was transformed by volunteers and now offers visitors the chance to see the wildlife of wetland habitats.
