Music interview: DJ Mark Jenkyns
Tell us about being back in Leeds, where do you feel the city fits in with the Leeds clubbing culture in the modern era?
Absolutely buzzing to be back in Leeds! It’s one of my favourite cities – I used to live here years ago and Mint Club was a staple part of my clubbing diet back then when Asylum used to be one of the main parties in town. I’ve never played it before and always wanted to so I can’t wait.

As for the show expect a bit of everything as usual, I don’t have a set genre or style I like to play. I love house, tech-house and techno and just play what I feel is right at the time.
And your new music, what’s in store for the new year?
I’ve remixed Anabel Englund – Kreature and I’m also going to remix Rhythm Masters which is something I’m proper buzzing about as they’re massive influences!
You’re a firm part of the Paradise movement. Tell us what it’s like being part of one of the leading underground brands?

And for people wanting to break through the glass ceiling, what advice would you give for budding producers wanting to break through?
Be yourself. Obviously being influenced and inspired is important but I get sent loads of tunes and all I hear is people trying to emulate Patrick Topping, Latmun, Detlef or Solardo – obviously the guys are massive but they have stamped their sound so it’s not going to stand out in my opinion.
Mark Jenkyns is playing at Mint Club, Leeds on Thursday January 25 – tickets:https://www.skiddle.com/whats-on/Leeds/The-Mint-Club/Reverb--ToDieFor-refreshers-party-Mark-Jenkyns--Kinnerman/13103816/
