Youngsters help Yorkshire claim top spot all on their own in Northern Counties League
Darryl Berry’s side had opened the season with an 11-7 win over Northumberland while Durham beat Cheshire and Lancashire vanquished Cumbria.
But the Red Rose side were held 9-9 by Cheshire at Royal Birkdale over the weekend to give Berry’s men early impetus in their bid for a fourth successive crown.

Wike Ridge’s Ben Firth won the top singles – he and Bridlington’s Matty Raybould were the only White Rose men to win in the morning and afternoon – but the next three points went to Durham.
However, Yorkshire brought home four wins and three halves from the remaining encounters including victories for newcomers George Heath (Woodsome Hall) and Michael Hay (Middlesbrough) and a half for the third debutant Dan Bradbury (Wakefield), who was unbeaten on the day.
Next up for Yorkshire are Lancashire at Fulford on July 7.
