The Whites netted through five different scorers in Patrick Bamford, Rodrigo, Stuart Dallas, Gjanni Alioski and Jack Harrison to sink Steve Bruce's visitors and move on to 17 points for the Premier League campaign.
Graham Smyth, the YEP's chief football writer, hands out the scores.
1. Illan Meslier
7 - A couple of nice saves, one particularly eye catching, but aside from those and the goals it was a quiet night. Photo by Stu Forster/Getty Images.
2. Stuart Dallas
8 - Good on the ball, linked up well with Raphinha in the first half especially. Kept running right to the end. Photo by Rui Vieira - Pool/Getty Images.
3. Luke Ayling
7 - Struggled in the air for both Newcastle goals but other than that put in a solid performance. In open play he was so comfortable. In possession he was good.

4. Liam Cooper
8 - Dominant in open play, defensively. Lucky to not have conceded a penalty though. Kept his team-mates honest, was vocal throughout, did well on the ball.

5. Gjanni Alioski
7 - Took his goal brilliantly. Some great link up play, some not so great. Chastised for sloppy play a few times but played his part. Photo by Tim Keeton via Getty.
6. Kalvin Phillips
7 - Conceded a couple of dangerous free-kicks and took a terrible corner that started Newcastle's attack for their second. Made some great interceptions and tackles, good on the ball, pressed play high up. Photo by Tim Keeton via Getty.
