County/District Cup: Brave Wortley forced to shelve Challenge Trophy bid for another year
Wortley sit sixth in the Yorkshire Amateur League second tier and faced a side who were unbeaten in their last ten games but the YAL outfit took a 1-0 lead through Wade Rushworth.
Shelf recovered to lead 2-1 at the break but Wortley drew level through Joe Hudson, only for the Halifax side to once again nose ahead.

Hide AdBut Wortley then squandered several chances to draw level as Shelf squeezed through to set up a semi-final against new emerging Wakefield League force Real Moor on Wednesday, April 26. The second semi-final will be between Meltham Athletic and Field Reserves and played on Wednesday, May 3. The final will be on Wednesday, May 24, with all games now played County HQ.
The quarter-finals of the flagship West Riding County FA Challenge Cup have already been played and Carlton Athletic will take on Ryburn United in the first semi-final on Wednesday, April 5.
The second semi-final will see Boroughbridge travel to Steeton two weeks later on Wednesday, April 19. The final will be on Wednesday, May 10.
In the Leeds & District FA Senior Challenge Cup, Headingley AFC will take on Leeds Medics & Dentists in the last remaining quarter final at Weetwood Playing Field this Saturday afternoon. The winners will face Real Moor in the semi-finals. The other semi will be between Beeston St Anthony’s and Robin Hood Athletic, taking place next Thursday – March 23 – at Bracken Edge. In the District Cup, Beeston St Anthony’s Reserves will take on Leeds City Reserves in the final at Bracken Edge on Wednesday, April 12.
