Traffic was grounded to a halt with reports of 15 minute journeys taking as long as two hours, while bus services were delayed by up to an hour and a half.

Hide AdDisruption began when West Yorkshire Police closed off part of the road near to the Armley Gyratory over concerns for the safety of a man on a bridge at around 2.20pm.
The man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after falling from the bridge.
The traffic chaos was further aggravated by another collision on Whitehall Road when a car overturned.
The collision did not cause the road to be closed, although did cause significant disruption due to vehicles being directed around.

Hide AdMore or less everyone trying to travel by roads in and around Leeds city centre on Thursday over rush hour.
The congestion brought traffic around the Ingram Distributor, Whitehall Road and Wellington Street to a standstill and had a knock-on effect on the traffic on Kirkstall Road, the A58 inner ring road and other major routes in the city.
Due to the levels of disruption, buses were also affected.
Arriva reported that there had been a 90 minute delay for some services as a result of being stuck in the traffic.
The main areas affected by the traffic chaos were the city centre, Armley, Holbeck, Kirkstall, Hyde Park, Headingley, Hunslet and the A6110 towards Bradford.
