Fears over flats plan in Leeds
Structured Acquisitions has applied to Leeds City Council for permission to demolish an existing bungalow on Allerton Park in Chapel Allerton and replace with 14 apartments.
Consultation ended on Friday with 71 objections lodged over fears including the effect on the conservation area of Gledhow valley, loss of trees, additional traffic, the scale of the development and lack of community involvement.

Hide AdObjectors included Christine Osborne, chairwoman of Gledhow Valley Conservation Area Group, who wrote the application seems “wholly inappropriate”, given the conservation area’s aim to protect the character and its Grade II listed buildings from “the encroachment” of more flats being built. But 19 letters of support have also been submitted, including from an estate agent citing a “shortage of apartments in this area for first time buyers”.
A spokesman for the developer said the proposed apartment block has been designed in “full acknowledgement of the conservation setting and on-site trees” and said fears over traffic have been addressed with off-street parking and a cycle space for every dwelling.
Aihtsham Rashid, of Structured Acquisitions, said their vision for the development “embodies the characteristics that make [Chapel Allerton] a popular place to live”.
He added: “We’ve worked with Nick Brown Architects to factor into our plans the feedback received from residents and the necessary professional bodies, and hope the development will help cater to the increasing demand for new housing in the area.”
