'You arm yourself at the drop of a hat': Man jailed for wielding machete and knife during street violence in Leeds

Daneiko Ferguson chased the man with the weapon after his sister Amina Ferguson had attacked him in a house in Osmondthorpe.
Leeds Crown Court heard the siblings were also involved in a separate fight in Farnley involving the use of a baseball bat and the brandishing of a knife.

Hide AdDaneiko, 25, was jailed for 22 months after pleading guilty to having a bladed article in a public place, affray and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Amina, 28, given a 16-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, with requirements to complete 30 days of rehabilitation activity and abide by a two-month electronically-monitored curfew.
She pleaded guilty to affray, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and unlawful wounding.
Deborah Smithies, prosecuting, said police received a report of a man with a machete chasing a man covered in blood along Back Dawlish Road on May 21 last year.

Hide AdOfficers went to a house and found an empty sheath for a machete in the living room.
Daneiko was arrested and when interviewed said he saw his sister attacking a man who had tried to assault her.
He said the man refused to leave the house so he chased him out of the house and down the street with the weapon.
Ms Smithies said the defendants were involved in a separate incident at a house in Farnley at around 10.30pm on July 4, 2019.

Hide AdThe pair went to the house after a dispute with a woman who lived at the property.
The victim was at home with a group of friends and children.
There was a fist fight between Amina, the victim and the victim's friends.
Amina was stabbed in the thigh during the disturbance.
The pair pushed each other around until Amina approached the victim from behind and hit her over the head with a baseball bat.

Hide AdThe victim was taken to hospital where she was treated for a wound behind her left ear.
She also suffered bleeding to her brain and had to spend days in hospital.
Amina has previous convictions for offences including assaulting a police officer, threatening behaviour and failure to surrender.
Daneiko, of no fixed address, has previous convictions for violent offences.

Hide AdCharles Blatchford, mitigating for Amina, described his client as vulnerable.
He said she had a previous traumatic life experience and had abused drugs.
Allan Armbrister, for Daneiko, said his client is overprotective of his older sister given the experiences she has had over the years.
He said the defendant had been in custody for 11 months.
Sentencing, Recorder Abdul Iqbal QC said: "What emerges is a position where you, Daneiko Ferguson, seemed ready to arm yourself with weapons at the drop of a hat."
