Leeds United' s clash with Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road in March 1998 was decided in the space of eight second-half minutes. The Whites dispensed with their customary profligacy to score three times thanks to Lee Bowyer, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Alf-Inge Haaland. Haaland added a fourth with a minute to go to complete the rout. The Whites followed up the win with a 5-0 rout against Derby County at Pride Park and would go on to finish the season in 5th position qualifying for the UEFA Cup, a point ahead of Blackburn Rovers.
