Over 150,000 people in the UK have died from Covid-19, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The ONS said that 151,313 deaths have now occurred in the UK where Covid was mentioned on the death certificate, with the highest number of deaths to occur on a single day being 1,472 on 19 January.

However, figures also show that the number of registered deaths involving Covid in England and Wales has fallen to the lowest level in six months, with 400 deaths registered in the week ending 2 April 2021 where Covid was mentioned on the death certificate.

This is the lowest number since the week ending 2 October 2020 and is down 44 per cent on the previous seven days.

The ONS said that the number of registrations was affected by the Good Friday Bank Holiday, which took place on 2 April.

The number of registered care home resident deaths involving coronavirus also dropped below 100 for the first time since the week ending 15 October, with 86 care home resident deaths involving Covid registered in England and Wales in the week to 2 April, which was down 43 per cent on the previous week.
