Beauty: On water, winning a spa day for two (and products of the week)
If your skin feels tight and less than plump, it may be worth considering that it is dehydrated rather than dry.
Many of us, especially as we get older, misdiagnose ourselves as having dry facial skin, which we then treat with oily and creamy products in an attempt to soften and nourish.

Hide AdNatalie Hart, spa operations manager at Titanic Spa, near Huddersfield, says that, because dehydrated skin lacks water rather than oil, we should look for hydrating products and those with hyaluronic acid, a molecule that can hold up to 40 times its own weight in water.
“It sounds simple, but you should also keep sipping on water throughout the day,” she adds. “The difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin is simpler than you may think: dry skin is lacking in natural oils, while dehydrated skin just needs a little more moisture to lock into the outer layer of the skin – the epidermis.”
Dehydrated skin can try to compensate for a lack of moisture by producing more sebum, the natural oil that causes spots. “Many guests at this time of year complain of flaky patches and a lacklustre complexion, but areas of oiliness and blemishes, too,” adds Natalie. “This is a typical sign of dehydrated skin. If you find that your make-up goes patchy, this could be because dehydrated skin absorbs any water from make-up, while dry patches cling on to it.”
She recommends Decleor Beauty Enhancing Facial, a personalised treatment with skin analysis.
