A selection of your letters to Times Past...

You may find the following of interest in respect of the Mullineux photographs (published in Times Past last week).

Herbert Stanley Mullineux was born in Barton Upon Irwell in Lancashire on 26 August 1914. He died in High Peak, Derbyshire in 1981. He married Gladys Grundy in Barton, Lancashire in 1945. Gladys was born in Bolton, Lancashire in 1915 and died in High Peak, Derbyshire in 1989.

As far as I can tell there were two children. They were Judith, born 9 June 1949 in Bolton, Lancashire and Helen, born 9 February 1953 also in Bolton, Lancashire.

Judith married David S Potter in Barton, Lancashire in 1970. As far as I can tell they had a son called Stewart who was born in Chapel En Le Frith, Derbyshire in 1974.

I believe that Helen married Colin Rivers in Exeter in 1977. There do not appear to be any children though that has not been confirmed.

I do not know the family and had never heard of them until I saw your article in the YEP. I am now retired but have been involved in Family History research for over thirty years. The above information took less than an hour to compile.

I hope that you find the above useful.

On Wednesday 19th August at 1pm, the Friends of Lawnswood Cemetery officially dedicated a new bench at the Cemetery to commemorate those who fought and died in the First World War. Bought with the assistance of the Outer North West Community Committee of Leeds City Council, the bench is a lasting tribute to those many casualties who are buried or commemorated at Lawnswood Cemetery. Councillor Barry Anderson was in attendance at the ceremony.

Your story on page 20 of the YEP today on the discovery of a ‘hidden cache of pictures found under floorboards’ is very interesting.

Initial research suggests that Stephen J Elsworth is the son of the Judith Mullineux mentioned in your article. This based on circumstantial evidence and will require direct confirmation.

He currently lives at:

35 Allerton Drive

York

YO26 6NL

Unfortunately his telephone number is ex-directory so that it will require a postal communication with him to confirm his identity.

If he is not the son of Judith Mullineux then I will have to undertake further research, but try him out first!
