Leeds nostalgia: Kieran saves family from hotel blaze
The story appeared in the YEP in January 1970.
Kieran Hough lived at the Great Northern Hotel, Richardshaw Lane, Stanningley (near Leeds) when the fire broke out on New Year’s Day.
His actions undoubtedly saved the family.
He woke his brother, Kevin, 20, and parents Joe Hough (licensee) and Mrs Hough, who then phoned for the fire brigade.

Keiran’s mother said: “When Keiran woke, the smoke was really thick. The brigade manage to contain the fire to the one bedroom.”
