They were queueing round the block in Leeds when these famous people from TV, sport and the world in general arrived to sign books and photographs.

Pat Phoenix, Coronation Street’s Elise Tanner gave out photographs while she was opening a store in Briggate in 1971 and in 1983 there was a right carry on when the extraordinary Kenneth Williams invaded the Bond Street Shopping Centre.

Twenty eight years before he helped organise the London Olympic Games Sebastian Coe was in the city signing for David Glynn and Diane Doherty and legendary war hero and fighter pilot Douglas Bader met the public at WHSmith in 1975.

Even that comedy genius Spike Milligan couldn’t give Leeds a miss and he was on hand to entertain the crowds in 1985.
