It’s well documented that one of the key ways in which human beings achieve wellbeing is by living in the moment.

There are many different ways of achieving that happy state but a day at a spa, thinking about nothing except heat and cool, food and drink, pampering and luxury is one of them.

I visited Titanic Spa on the outskirts of Huddersfield with my daughter and spent a day of calm contentment.

This award-winning eco spa is housed within a former textile mill and rises from the dramatic landscape of the edge of the Pennines.

It offers a long list of top-to-toe treatments from facials to pedicures, so I indulged in a Elemis Modern Skin Facial. It was fifty minutes of bliss with a succession of lotions, unguents, masks and massages. At the end, my skin looked fresh, glowing and younger.

My daughter had the Neom Titanic Signature Massage which left her feeling relaxed and full of wellbeing.

You can take your pick of many delicious treatments according to your need, but at the heart of the spa is the Heat and Ice Experience.

We spent time there taking advantage of the different rooms, which aim to relax and cleanse.

There are aromatherapy rooms, sauna rooms, and steam baths. And there is the plunge pool. Sweat in the sauna, take a deep breath – and plunge into icy water. It is exhilarating and breathtaking.

Lunch at Titanic Spa is healthy and delicious and many guests stay overnight in penthouse apartments in the same building, as we did. We had dinner followed by a blissful sleep.

For women at least, a sense of wellbeing definitely also involves having a good hair day.

We have many products to try to achieve healthy-looking hair but Sassoon salons are literally going back to the root of the problem.

They are now offering clients a scalp dermabrasion treatment - a bit like a facial for the scalp.

Just like skin, the scalp can become congested with products and oil, making it more difficult for hair to grow from the follicle, so this treatment allows the hair to naturally reach its full potential.

The curse of many women is fine, flyaway hair so, in addition to the in-salon treatment, clients can take home a three-part system to suit their individual hair and scalp needs, and designed to make the hair look fuller and healthier.

I tried the treatment at Sassoon in Leeds.

First came the Nioscope scalp consultation using the latest camera technology.

A healthy scalp shines like mother of pearl on this camera, but mine was suffering from product overload, so the dermabrasion treatment was applied. After that my hair was washed and conditioned with Nioxin products, making it appear thicker and stronger while still maintaining a silky shine.

The consultation, camera examination and scalp dermabrasion costs £45 and takes 45 minutes.
