Pontefract’s Race for Life ends with shock proposal from boyfriend

Have your say

A RUNNER in the Race for Life event in Pontefract had a romantic surprise waiting for her as she crossed the finish line.

Ashleigh Seal, 22, from Castleford, was greeted by a message on a giant banner asking if she would marry her fella, Corey Barnecutt. Corey, 23, was also at the finish line ready to go down on one knee.

After accepting his proposal, Ashleigh told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “I couldn’t believe it – I’m still shaking now!

“I had absolutely no idea he had this planned so I got the shock of my life when I saw the banner. We had a great reaction from people at the run, they were all applauding.”

Yesterday’s (July 20) event was held at Pontefract Racecourse in aid of Cancer Research UK and attracted hundreds of entrants.
