A BODYBUILDER from Leeds has raised £8,300 for cancer charities after organising a gruelling test of strength and fitness.
Father-of-two Ian Duckett, from Tingley, organised the Three Challenge competition after his wife, Louise, 49, was diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer.
The one-day event saw participants battle it out in a fitness module including drill workouts and kettlebell work, and an agility module including sprints and tests of balance.
The challenge raised £5,844 for Yorkshire Cancer Research and a further £2,500 was raised for Cancer Research UK.
Ian, 48, founder of fitness company BodyInDesign, said: “The details of the competition pale into insignificance in comparison to the pain the athletes put themselves through for the challenge and for the cause.
“This event was sparked by feeling helpless and unable to do anything about my wife’s battle with cancer, and I’d like to thank everyone who stepped up to the line with me and made it happen.”
He added: “It turned out to be more rewarding than I could have dreamed.
“The camaraderie, love and respect the athletes, marshals and spectators showed just blew my mind.”
Ian is already planning his next challenge, which will take in the autumn.
