A 10-year-old girl from Batley has had a close shave after chopping off her long locks for a good cause.

Kind-hearted youngster Tilly Heywood has raised over £500 for a children’s cancer charity by having her ponytail cut off.

She has also donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust, where it can be made into a wig for a child who has lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Tilly’s sister Alice Heywood, 18, studies hairdressing at Kirklees College in Huddersfield.

She had the job of cutting off her sister’s ponytail.

Alice said: “Tilly had got quite sick of her hair being so long.

“A friend suggested she donate her hair to the charity which she thought was a great idea.”

During the sponsored haircut event, £70 was collected at Kirklees College by generous students and staff.
