TV preview: Surprise Surprise

Have your say

It’s been a busy year for Holly Willoughby.

She’s juggled filming commitments for ‘Celebrity Juice’, ‘This Morning’ and this weepy series, before giving birth last month.

And tonight she dons her best frock to launch another run of ‘Surprise Surprise’ in which she will be chatting to some of the country’s most admirable people.

The mother-of-three is approachable, chatty and has proved herself the perfect choice to step into Cilla Black’s shoes in this feel-good programme.

However, she did once admit to TV Choice that even she struggles to hold back the tears upon hearing the more emotional stories.

“Anyone who’s seen me on ‘This Morning’ will know that I can’t be anything other than myself in those situations,” she explained. “And if I were watching at home, I’d be crying.

“I still haven’t learnt to separate myself and be professional when I’m on the telly yet. But I think when you’re listening to somebody’s story and you buy into them and what’s going on, you can’t help but be moved by it.”

Watch out for plenty of tears on tonight’s show - they’re not easing us in gently just because it is the first episode of a new run. You will definitely need to the tissues to hand - you’ve been warned.

Holly meets Lauren Hawke who is nominating her best friend Holly Addison for the charity fundraising she’s done in memory of her father.

Gary died in February of last year after battling an extremely aggressive form of brain cancer, and Holly has worked tirelessly ever since to raise money for The Katherine House Hospice, Cancer Research UK and Brain Tumor Research. Holly arranges for her to get the surprise of her life from singing superstar Pharrell Williams...

Meanwhile, 26-year-old Jodi Bickley has been nominated by her mother Tina for writing letters of love and hope to millions of people across the world. She decided to put her love of writing to use after an ME diagnosis had a big impact on her emotionally and physically. Through her website ‘One Million Lovely Letters’, she invites people to email her with their worries and responds with a personal, handwritten letter of support.

But tonight, she’s in for a special surprise of her own - a dinner date with Stephen Fry, and a special musical performance from Nicole Scherzinger.
