Another take on the classic tale of Peter Pan.
This version takes a different turn, featuring the hospital that writer JM Barrie gifted the rights to and irrevocably linked with the story of the boy who never grew up. The story is told through teenager Lucy, played by Hazel Doupe, who arrives with her mother at Great Ormond Street Hospital for life-saving heart surgery. Bored and anxious, Lucy finds an old copy of Peter Pan and, reading it late into the night as her heart is growing weaker, the two worlds start to collide. Like Peter, Lucy fears she may never have the opportunity to grow up. During the film she drifts in and out of the two worlds, the frightening present of her surgery as Lucy and the enchanted past as Wendy Darling. This sweet and charming family film features Hollywood heavyweight Stanley Tucci taking on the traditional roles of Captain Hook and Mr Darling but also as Dr Wylie, the surgeon about to operate on Lucy. Singer Paloma Faith plays Tinkerbell and teenage Bradford actor Zak Sutcliffe takes the title role of Peter Pan. The adaptation was written by Adrian Hodges, also behind the reworked TV series The Musketeers.
