WEST Yorkshire playwright John Godber is to make a rare appearance on stage in a special performance of his play Bouncers.

Mr Godber, who was born in Upton, will perform for one night only at Theatre Royal Wakefield’s Anniversary Variety Performance on Friday February 13, which will mark to theatre’s 120th anniversary.

He will be joined by compere for the evening, comedian Billy Pearce, The Voice finalists Frances Wood and Sophie May Williams, alongside surprise guests and youth performers from Les Miserables.

Mr Godber, who trained as a drama teacher at Bretton Hall College in Wakefield, has been based at the theatre with his production company since 2010, after 26 years at Hull Truck Theatre.

Tickets for the variety show are already on sale, and a black tie Anniversary Gala Dinner will take place at Unity Hall before the show.
