The search is on for Leeds’s top new musical talent as The Light and Radio Aire launch Battle of the Bands.

Now in its second year, Battle of the Bands allows budding musicians the chance to take centre stage, simply by uploading a short audition video on Radio Aire’s website before Monday October 5. From rock to folk, indie to electro, all types of music are welcome.

Five finalists will be shortlisted and given the opportunity to play at a final showcase at The Light on Saturday October 24, hosted by Radio Aire’s new breakfast DJs Stu and Kelly. The judging panel will include representatives from The Light, Music Room and Leeds Student Radio.

The winning band will be given the opportunity of a lifetime, to play a VIP event at Leeds First Direct Arena with Radio Aire on November 16. The prize package also includes £1,000 cash, coverage on Radio Aire’s Home Run gig tickets and an electric guitar courtesy of Music Room and £100 to spend at Frankie and Benny’s.

Stephanie James, marketing manager at The Light, said: “Battle of the Bands was a huge success when we launched it last year and we had some fantastic entries. We’re expecting this year to be even bigger and better, especially given the incredible prize package. If you think you have what it takes, enter now.”
