Leeds First Direct Arena: Backstage Pass: Prince to Play Leeds

Have your say

It’s been a busy week here at the Leeds First Dicrect Arena and there’s certainly never a dull moment. Whilst preparing to announce our very big news yesterday, I watched McBusted’s Delorean arrive!

I hope that everyone who came to see McBusted at the arena last night enjoyed it as much as we did, singing along to all their classics – it was such a fun crowd and an incredible atmosphere.

The last 12 months have flown by and, this week marks a special milestone us here at the arena and at first direct.

It’s one year since we announced exclusively in the Yorkshire Evening Post that we were becoming the Leeds First Dicrect Arena – sponsored by Leeds based business, First Direct.

Sharing our passion for our vibrant city and its development,First Direct were the perfect partners.

Not only putting their name above the door but also instilling their focus on customer satisfaction experience in everything we do here at the arena too.

They have helped us bring major artists to Leeds such as Springsteen, Sir Elton John and BBC Sports Personality of the year and, this impressive line-up continues into the year ahead.

A year ago we were announcing Bruce Springsteen and I am delighted to be making another huge announcement this year, as we share the news that Prince will be performing here in three weeks, on 23 May 2014!

Needless to say the arena office was buzzing with excitement yesterday, and not just because the McBusted boys were in town!

The man behind The Most Beautiful Girl in the World, Kiss, Purple Rain, and Little Red Corvette, Prince is one of the most successful recording artists of all time, and is renowned for his spectacular live shows.

Prince has sold over 100 million records, has had 10 platinum albums and thirty top 40 singles. He has also won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, seven Grammies and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

As we celebrate this year milestone with first direct, we also look forward to the next few weeks as we set the arena stage for Miley Cyrus and then World Championship Boxing and welcome Prince to Leeds! We’ll be sharing some new exciting announcements too so stay tuned to find out more.

Since the arena opened we have welcomed more than a third of a million people through our doors and hosted major artists who have collectively achieved 33 Grammys, 18 Brit Awards, 318 UK Top 10 singles, 70 UK No.1 singles, 77 UK No.1 albums, 85 million albums sold in the UK.

We have also exposed the vibrant city of Leeds to an audience of over 12 million people across the UK.
