It’s arguably one of the biggest – and oldest - funfair playgrounds on the planet.

And now the countdown to eight hair-raising, upside-down, roundabout days of action, thrills and laughs is underway.

Hull Fair will roll back into Kingston upon Hull on Friday, October 5, and is set to the turn the sky ablaze with colour and light from brilliant ‘mega-rides’ that are bound to have visitors ‘head over heels’.

Each year hundreds of thousands of fun-seekers pack Walton Street in the shadow of the KCOM Stadium for all the fun of the fair.

Now in its 725th year, this time around Hull Fair is set to be even better than ever, with a host of brand new rides and attractions.

From thrills that will keep even the most daring adrenalin junkie happy, to rides that are perfect for the milder-mannered, roller coasters to gently spinning tea cups, there are over 90 large attractions to choose from.

Each year the fair features a major new ride, and this year won’t disappoint, with the debut of ‘XXL’ - big brother of the popular ‘Afterburner’ and ‘The Freak Out’, and on its first appearance in the north.

A real mega attraction, it can reach the incredible height of 40m, while its swings spans a spectacular 47m. The XXL has a capacity of 20 passengers for each ride - and is set to be a magnet for the thrill seekers!

Regulars will also be looking forward to another trip on ‘Air’ - a favourite at Hull – as well as the giant wheel, ‘Sky Flyer’ and ‘The Exciter’, which is the only ride of its kind in the world.

But it’s not just about the big thrill rides. The Waltzers are everyone’s favourite, and this year there will be at least six to choose from, each playing the latest music and featuring some fantastic lighting effects.

The Dodgems are also always popular. For those keen to try their driving skills, there will be five or six different rides scattered around the ground.

Whereas in years gone by there was a row of fairground fun and games, these days the traditional ‘show row’ is packed with rides, Fun Houses and Ghost Trains.

In total, there’ll be around 80 adult rides, 10 Fun Houses and Ghost Trains, 150 children's rides and 250 stalls.

When it’s time to fill up, Walton Street will be packed with hundreds of food stalls selling a variety tasty treats and delicious snacks.

Best of all, admission to Hull Fair is completely free, so you can just stroll around, soak up the sounds and savour the fun if you want.

There’s parking at the nearby KCOM Stadium, and extra buses too while the fair is open.

It all kicks off when The Rt. Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber, Councillor Pete Allen officially opens the fair at 5pm on Friday October 5.

He’ll make his way up Walton Street in a horse drawn carriage, before ringing the Hull Fair Bell to announce the fair’s arrival and its official opening.

The fair will also be open on Saturday, October 6, from noon to 11pm, then Monday to Friday from 2pm to 11pm, and Saturday, October 13, from noon to 11pm. The fair will be closed on Sunday, October 7.
