Actor Miltos Yerolemou, who is better known as his Game of Thrones’ sword teacher Syrio Forel, will teach a special swordsmanship masterclass at SmashCon, which takes place at New Dock Hall on Sunday.

The city is already home to one celebration of all things comic art, Thought Bubble, which has taken place annually since 2007.

But organisers of SmashCon, which celebrates sci-fi and fantasy TV and film, comic books, Cosplay and BWE (British Wrestling Entertainment), say Leeds has been crying out for a large-scale ‘Con’ event seen in other UK cities.

Other celebrity guests include comedian and Red Dwarf star, Norman Lovett, Brian Wheeler from Return of the Jedi, Harry Potter actor Martin Ballantyne and Hannah Spearritt from Primeaval.

Organiser Glen Crosthwaite said: “Comic Cons are soaring in popularity around the country, Manchester and Birmingham both have annual events now that attract thousands of fans, and yet despite all the diverse entertainment available in Leeds, we don’t have one, fans have to travel hours away instead. I wanted to put Leeds firmly on the map for this genre, with the biggest event of its kind ever to be held in the city – and it’s looking likely we have done just that.”

Tickets for Smashcon cost £15 per adult, £10 per child or £45 for a family if bought from Skiddle in advance. Miltos Yerolemov’s Sword Academy Experience is an extra £25.
