Review: KOYO – Out Of Control

Leeds band KOYO are back today with new single Out Of Control. A more straight-up, radio-friendly track to the ones fans will be accustomed to, but a welcome and refreshing change nonetheless.

In all due respect, starting with a drum introduction that calls back to The Pigeon Detectives’ immediacy and a fresh sounding vocal reminiscent of latter-day Johnny Marr solo work, KOYO may have finally thrown off the weight of their last album’s Prog genre, and sound less like a band trying and more like a band having fun.

KOYO have had a line-up change and some new dubious lockdown hair styles, but seem to have hit a whole new stride in their output. Having heard the new album which is to be released at the end of the month, fans can expect a pace and style that mirrors the best of Radioheads King Of Limbs album which is a satisfying new direction that will see them garner yet more attention.

For me, live music can’t come back quick enough, and with KOYO releasing new work we can hope to see them in the not too distant future in a venue near you soon.
