The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir, which features a doctor from Leeds, is to release its debut album next month.

Katie Rogerson, a children’s doctor originally from Roundhay, joined colleagues from the London NHS trust to record A Bridge Over You.

The song beat Justin’s track Love Yourself to top the Official UK Singles Chart at Christmas after the Canadian singer urged his 72m Twitter followers to buy the single.

Following his support, members of the 30-strong choir met the global star earlier this year.

Dr Rogerson, a former Notre Dame Sixth Form College pupil, said at the time that it was “wonderful” and an acknowledgement of NHS staff across the UK.

Now the NHS Choir has signed a deal with Decca Records, part of Justin’s label Universal Music, for their album of uplifting classics called Something Inside So Strong.

Choir co-ordinator Caroline Smith, who works as a children’s physiotherapist, said: “I’m delighted to be able to represent and support the NHS with such a special album. When everyone comes together in the choir it’s really powerful, I’ve never experienced anything quite like it.”

A minimum of £40,000 from sales will go to the London trust to enhance the lives of patients and staff. The album, which features covers including Bill Withers’s Lean On Me and Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud, is released on May 27.
