Music to be felt but not heard
An American composer has won a £15,000 prize to work on a pioneering project marking a 10 year partnership between Opera North and The University of Leeds.
The first DARE prize winner, Samuel Hertz, will produce a piece of acoustic music, using transducers to produce low frequency sounds that can be felt rather than heard.
Applications from artists around the world were reduced to a shortlist of five.

Hide AdOther proposals included a whale choir and an investigation of cosmic bubbles.
He said: “This year will be enlightening and productive both for my practice, and of my collaborators, in our joint expedition into the drama of the unheard realm of infrasound.”
