Music to be felt but not heard

An American composer has won a £15,000 prize to work on a pioneering project marking a 10 year partnership between Opera North and The University of Leeds.

The first DARE prize winner, Samuel Hertz, will produce a piece of acoustic music, using transducers to produce low frequency sounds that can be felt rather than heard.

Applications from artists around the world were reduced to a shortlist of five.
