Kylie Minogue is on course to make history if she reaches number one with her 15th studio album, Disco.

The 52-year-old Australian pop superstar has already had seven UK number one albums, and she could have an eighth under her belt on Friday 13 November when the charts are announced.

Kylie is currently battling it out against Little Mix for the top spot, and continues to hold a narrow lead over the girl group’s latest record, Confetti.

If Disco is crowned number one, she will be the first female solo artist to score a UK number one album in five consecutive decades.

In her 33-year career, Kylie, who is Australia’s highest-selling female artist of all time, had 17 albums rank in the UK top 10.

She’s truly cemented herself as a pop icon over the years, winning a Grammy award for her 2002 song Come Into My World, and performing Glastonbury festival's coveted “legend slot” in 2019, which has become the most-watched Glastonbury performance on UK TV.

Here, we look back at Kylie’s golden pop history and take a look at what the new album’s all about.

What Kylie Minogue albums have been number one?

Kylie has racked up a huge 17 number one singles in the UK charts, including I Should Be So Lucky and Spinning Around.

But her album record is equally as impressive, with a whopping seven number ones.

Her debut studio album in 1988, Kylie, took the top slot, followed by Enjoy Yourself which reached number one in 1989.

Then, it was Kylie’s Greatest Hits (1992), followed by Fever in 2001.

The hits kept coming, with a number one slot for Aphrodite in 2010.

If Kylie secures the top spot with Disco on 13 November, beating off Little Mix, she will have had three number ones in as many years, following Golden in 2018 and the Step Back In Time compilation in 2019.

When was Disco released?

Kylie dropped her 15th studio album, Disco, on Friday 6 November.

She told Elle.com that she made part of the record before the coronavirus pandemic hit, and was forced to finish it off during quarantine.

Despite the unusual recording circumstances, it’s clearly a success so far with fans going wild for Disco’s eclectic collection of club and dance tracks which live up to the album name.

What’s on the album?

Disco includes a number of retro-sounding, dance floor-ready songs, with the lead song being Say Something.

Kylie told Elle.com that many of the tracks on the new album are “about togetherness, and that dream of good times, acknowledging that they’re not all great times”.

It has been described as an album for the current times due to its atmosphere of escapism which projects a sense of positivity.

In response, Kylie has said the album content doesn’t align with what’s happened in the world this year.

She said to Elle: “There's a moment in the world now where people want or are enjoying some escapism.

“I have my own personal reasons for how I ended up having disco as the thing for this album, but it had nothing to do with 2020. It's just ideas and actualities colliding.”

Disco was co-written by Kylie and a number of collaborators, including Spice Girls producer Richard “Biff” Stannard and Fiona Bevan who has worked with Ed Sheeran.
