Straight from the list of BBC’s sound of music 2016 to a No 1 album in around a year – that’s some going even for the most ferociously promoted bands.

This is the kind of band that should be viewed in awe by younger musicians, the kind of band that puts the TV wannabes firmly in their place. This is what dreams are made of!

Actually I’m kind of wrong, this is what hard work and solid determination and belief in yourself is made of and talent too, bags of talent.

I’ve seem Blossoms many times over the last year or so, from small gig to main stage festival band, and watched their fan base grow accordingly. Manchester has produced some outstanding talent over the years and Blossoms are another rosette on the sash.

Leeds Beckett University students union could have been filled twice over so it was surprising to see they weren’t billed in a bigger venue.

On stage Blossoms start with At Most a Kiss – it’s a great opening track and a rapturous crowd a jumping around like crazy. Following with Blow, Smashed Pianos, My Favourite Room and Honey Sweet, the band are showering Leeds with awesome track after awesome track.

Tom Ogden’s presence as front man is growing phenomenally, he has a voice not shared with other similar artists or bands, and their performance is greeted with hysteria from a relatively young audience.

As sets go it’s not massive, by any account, but ending with Charlemagne was the epitome of cool – a perfect ending to a gig which would floor other venues.

Are these main stage headliners for festivals in 2017? You just watch them being fought over by most festivals across the UK and Europe!
