The kit is one of a number of items donated by musicians to the #DrumForNHS sale at London-based fine art and antiques specialist Dawsons Auctions on July 4. The sale, which will be livestreamed, will be led by Flog It! presenter Paul Martin.

The auction follows an NHS Drumathon started by Errol Kennedy, formerly of soul-funk band Imagination, and his wife, Bev Sage. The project has already raised more than £30,000 for the NHS.

Hodgson, who was a member of Kaiser Chiefs from 2000 to 2012 before going on to write songs for the likes of Dua Lipa, Olly Murs, James Arthur and Duran Duran, played the kit on the Leeds band’s second album, Yours Truly, The Angry Mob.

“It is the first custom-built drum kit I ever had,” Hodgson, 42, explained in an Instagram video. “It was made by Brady, an Australian company that doesn’t exist any more, which only adds to the value. If you look up Brady drum kits you’ll see they are amongst the best in the world.

“This kit was played by me on Ruby and The Angry Mob and all of that second album by the Kaiser Chiefs and it really is a remarkable drum kit. I played it at Glastonbury and countless festivals and countless tours.

“There’s three in the world, I had three custom built, but this was the first. The second one lived in America and I sold that in 2012 to David Letterman, so it’s in good company there.

“The third and final one is up in Leeds at Nave” – the studio belonging to Kaiser Chiefs keyboard player Nick ‘Peanut’ Baines – “and then there’s this one which has a little plaque that says my name on it and hand-built by Brady Drums in 2006 and this is the one that’s for sale. I’m hoping it’s going to raise a lot of money for the NHS charities. So tell your friends, if you know any drum fans who are also Kaiser Chiefs’ fans who love the song Ruby and are millionaires, tell them all about it.”
