Three quarters of Leeds 30-somethings have now had the Covid jab

Vaccine uptake in Leeds is “really good”, according to health experts, as almost three quarters of residents in their 30s have now had at least one Covid-19 vaccination dose.

NHS vaccination programme chiefs praised the willingness of people of all age groups in Leeds to have the jab, adding a further nine out of 10 people in their 40s have also had their first injection.

While vaccine take-up has been extremely high among older age groups, some had worried whether hesitancy would increase when it came time to offer younger people the Covid-19 jab.

But a spokesperson for the Leeds vaccination programme, said today: “Across Leeds, uptake from people who are eligible to have the vaccine has been really good in all age groups so far.

“We’ve now vaccinated approximately 9 out of 10 people in their 40s and 74.2 per cent of people in their 30s, even though this cohort only fully opened up couple of weeks ago.

“We are aware that some younger people may not think they need a vaccination given their age but Covid-19 can affect anyone so we would urge everyone to get an appointment as soon as they are eligible.

“Getting vaccinated is the most important step we can take to protect ourselves and our families against the virus and help us get back to a normal life.

Latest figures released by the NHS today show that 33,375,148 people in the UK have had a first dose of the jab – 22,755,909 of which have also had their second.

In total, 445,446 people in Leeds have had their first dose of the vaccine, while 307,347 have had their second.
