Yorkshire duo Townend and Wilson ready for launch of new eventing season

YORKSHIRE’S eventing finest Oliver Townend and Nicola Wilson will launch straight into the new British Eventing season this weekend.

Several events have been lost to the weather including this weekend’s Moreton Horse Trials but Townend has entries at both Aston-Le-Walls on Saturday and Isleham on Sunday. Wilson will also begin her season at Aston-Le-Walls on Saturday. Beverley’s Gary Parsonage will wait until Oasby the following week before beginning his season.

Last Saturday saw the Jumping And Style finals take place at Bury Farm with Braithwell’s defending BE90 champion Eliza Yeardley and Prince VIII finishing a fine second in the BE90 class and 13th out of 57 in the BE100 final.

Yeardley’s Ackworth club-mate, Selby’s Chloe Naismith, withdrew from the competition along with Doncaster’s Sophie Platt but in the Novice final Doncaster’s Connie Warde-Aldam and Hotshots finished seventh out of 41.

The Yorkshire Sport Horse Committee are staging their second Stallion Parade at Richmond Equestrian Centre on Sunday, March 9.

The Committee aims to give Northern breeders a chance to see different disciplines from eventing, show jumping and showing stallions to native ponies.

They held their first Stallion Parade in 2013 with David Dixon who organised the event last year, back in the driving seat for 2014.

Dixon said: “We are delighted to be back at Richmond as the centre has fantastic facilities, both for the horses and the public. We are able to show the stallions in both indoor and outdoor arenas which gives prospective breeders a really good chance to assess the horses.”

Stallions must be graded by Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain or registered with the appropriate breed organisation to ensure high standards and approved stock.

Admission costs £10 but special rates for juniors and groups are available if booked in advance through Liz Lorrimar on [email protected] or on 01845 523236.
