Jenkins will join fellow Welsh ace Stanford and Holland at this summer’s Rio Olympics but will bypass the Leeds leg of the ITU World Triathlon Series after putting all of her efforts into sealing Games qualification by winning the Gold Coast leg in April.

Reigning double world champion and recent Yokohama scorer Gwen Jorgensen is also heading for Leeds, but Jenkins believes a passionate home crowd can help Leeds-based Stanford and Holland demote the American star into bronze.

Jenkins reasoned: “Gwen Jorgensen is such a good runner and everything but we have got this home crowd support and I do think Non and Vicky are really going to challenge. Non had a great result in Cape Town and I am sure it built up from there – and she’s also Welsh! I would say it’s going to be between Non, Vicky and Gwen and I reckon Non and Vicky could edge Gwen out, especially with that home-crowd support.

“I really wanted to do it but after hitting that peak form in April to try and qualify, I needed to back off a little bit and take a bit of down time. It’s impossible to maintain that high level of fitness from April to August so, unfortunately, it didn’t fit in but the venue looks amazing. I will be really excited to see them all race.”
