Wetherby League: Jaffray strikes as Milford fall against the pace-setters

For a second week running, Deighton completely outplayed their opposition as South Milford slumped to a 10-wicket defeat at Mark Lane.

With clouds hovering above, Aussie Scott Jaffray got the ball seam and swinging and took a five-wicket haul to send Milford tumbling for just 79. Rohan Sivajoti (37no) and Jonny Watkins (42no) encountered little trouble in securing the second-placed outfit a 10-wicket triumph.

Leaders Scarcroft were also impressive with the ball on home turf in Dismissing Shadwell for 118 and chasing the score down with six wickets in hand.

Bilton-in-Ainsty remain on the tails of the leading pair after defeating Garforth Parish Church by nine wickets.

Swing bowler Graham Hutchinson used the new ball to devastating effect to return figures of 5-23 and oust Garforth for 62. Phillip Schofield was unbeatable in reply, scoring 47 not out.

It was a family affair as Sicklinghall jumped out of the relegation zone and above fellow strugglers Old Leodiensians in a 19-run home win.

Martin (58), Andy (35) and Phil (40) Wood were the main contributors as Sicklinghall posted a competitive 203-8, despite three wickets for Jack Kane.

Leos built their response nicely with Zaid Din (34) and Chris Butt (31) failing to make the most of starts. But Imran Ali swung the match into Sicklinghall’s hands with 4-50.

Church Fenton continue to prop up the table after another poor batting display in their seven-wicket loss to Barwick-in-Elmet.

Gary Bettison crashed an unbeaten 67 as Barwick eased past their target of 108.

Champions St Chad’s Broomfield (16-0) were cursed by the wet weather as they dropped points in an abandoned game at home to Hillam and Monk Fryston.

In Division Two, undefeated Rufforth took the spoils in a top of the table encounter at Headingley Bramhope. St Chad’s A are second and they secured a sixth win of the season against Saxton.
